Re-Discovery of the Tangible
In 2069, Humans spend more time alone, more than we ever did in the past. Community spirit is nearing non-existent. We live alone, spend more time on the internet, using technology to stay connected than we do on making meaningful interpersonal connections. Loneliness is a crisis. With social media and our high-tech life, people have become too reliant on electrical devices.
Touch is the most intimate sense out of all our five senses. It is the only sense that is connected to our emotions, and this connection is formed from the start of life. Unlike being born without the ability to hearing and sight, where you can still live a relatively pleasant life, if you are born and do not receive physical human contact, problems arise.
The aim of the project is to create intimate spaces for the citizens of loneliness to gather and meet through craft. A place where people can reconnect with one another, without the mind-numbing distractions of machines. Similarly, to how physical exercise is regarded to achieving a healthy lifestyle, activating cognitive functions with creative arts may just as important to achieve health and well-being. We make in order to exchange.
