Plastic waste will certainly take over our livelihood if we don’t take responsibility over what we produce. Plastic itself is known to be one of the most important material we create. The application of plastic are endless. Ironically, plastic is one of the major cause of pollution. However, there is an alternative choice of material in manufacturing product packaging. Rather using plastics we can use organic material such as mushrooms (mycelium). Mycelium based product has a better chance of biodegrading than biodegradable plastic.

This project is to create a factory to produce mycelium related products which manufacture organic material for packaging and large objects such as building insulation. This will slowly replace the use of plastic. It will benefit every industry sector as it provides and organic solution to single-use plastic. The main Idea for the factory is to have a visitor centre cut right above the factory. The visitor centre has a direct view down towards the factory which will give the visitor first-hand experience of mycelium production.

In recent studies, mushroom we know it has the purpose of decimating plastic. In the factory will have towers that is filled with mushrooms that can decimate plastic waste from Cumbernauld. An organic factory located at Cumbernauld will provide new jobs and turn Cumbernauld into a self-sustain utopian city. The new area aims to change the perspective of plastic and in exchange to encourage people to take a step forward to a plastic free environment.
