Masterplan for Collegelands

The aim of this project is to bring life back into Glasgow’s High Street as over recent years it has been in decline. To achieve this goal, we done a lot of in-depth analysis of the existing city of Glasgow including looking at things such as the history, the centrality, and the planning framework.

After doing this research we came up with our own strategies to improve the city and help revive High Street. Currently, High Street acts as a barrier between the West and the East of Glasgow, and there are connection problems between the North and South of the city as well. While working in conjunction with two fellow students, we came to the conclusion that the three main problem areas of the city are Townhead, Collegelands, and Calton. I decided to tackle the Collegelands area.

The area has a very rich history, such as being the original site of Glasgow University, however most of that has been lost over time and what we have been left with is lacklustre tower blocks and vacant land. My masterplan aims to bring some of that lost history back and extend the University’s reach over to the site. It will also make use of the vacant land to create a neighbourhood that can help to bring life back into High Street.
